Experience
Mr. Yeung represents public and private sector employers in all areas of labor and employment law. His practice consists primarily of defending employers in employment-related litigation, including claims of race, sex, and disability discrimination/harassment, reasonable accommodation claims, retaliation and whistle-blower claims, and wage and hour violations. Mr. Yeung has experience handling all aspects of litigation, including discovery, motions for summary judgment, jury trials, and appellate litigation in both the state and federal courts. In addition to employment litigation, Mr. Yeung handles labor arbitrations and hearings before Civil Service Commissions and Personnel Boards. He also has extensive experience litigating unfair practice charges before the Public Employment Relations Board (PERB). Mr. Yeung shares his experience on PERB matters in the “California PERB Blog” (http://www.caperb.blogspot.com), the only legal blog focused on PERB.
In addition to litigation, Mr. Yeung conducts workplace investigations. He is often called upon by employers seeking a prompt, neutral, and objective investigation into allegations of sexual harassment, workplace violence, and other forms of discrimination.
Related Experience
Prior to joining Renne Sloan Holtzman Sakai, Mr. Yeung was a Deputy Attorney General in the Employment Law Section of the California Department of Justice. As a Deputy Attorney General, Mr. Yeung defended various state agencies, and also the Administrative Office of the Courts and the California State University system, in employment-related litigation. He served as lead counsel overseeing all aspects of litigation in numerous cases, including Miller v. Department of Corrections (2005) 36 Cal.4th 446. In addition to litigation, Mr. Yeung also provided advice and training to state agencies in labor and employment law matters.
Mr. Yeung has also served as a Legal Adviser to PERB and as a Labor Relations Counsel with the California Department of Personnel Administration.
