Experience
Ms. Evans advocates for the rights of victims in public interest litigation. She has extensive experience representing plaintiffs in individual and class action lawsuits in state and federal courts. A courtroom veteran, Ms. Evans has had numerous jury and bench trials and was undefeated in a dozen civil trials she had as a San Francisco Deputy City Attorney. She has successfully defended her victories in state and federal appellate courts.
Some of the cases for which Ms. Evans has served as counsel include:
- A certified national class (250,000 victims) and national and state putative class actions and individual lawsuits involving elder financial abuse. These suits are brought on behalf of senior citizens against insurance companies, banks and other entities for the sale of inappropriate annuity products to seniors.
- A putative class of California public agencies against insurance brokers for undisclosed commissions and breach of fiduciary duties. Represented public entities include County of Santa Clara, San Francisco Unified School District, San Francisco Community College District, and Tuolumne Joint Powers Authority (comprised of 30 public entity school districts).
- A lawsuit on behalf of African-American employees in private industry for race discrimination, retaliation and harassment.
- An action on behalf the people of the State of California against lead paint manufacturers seeking abatement of harmful lead paint properties, restitution and damages.
- An action on behalf of the people of the State of California against firearms manufacturers, retailers and trade associations to enjoin harmful marketing practices and improve product safety.
Related Experience
Ms. Evans previously worked as a Deputy City Attorney for the San Francisco City Attorney's Office where she was a member of the affirmative litigation team. She also worked in private practice, where she practiced civil litigation in plaintiffs' firms, emphasizing personal injury, product liability, (pharmaceutical and asbestos), malpractice and employment law.
