Our
Mission
Renne Sloan
Holtzman Sakai LLP, the Public Law Group, is dedicated to providing
effective, creative legal representation and policy advice to
meet the distinctive needs of local governments, non-profit
organizations and individuals.
With collective
experience in nearly every area of public sector law, our attorneys
are skilled and effective advocates for the rights of local
governments and community-based organizations.
Founded
in 2004, RSHS has quickly moved to the forefront of providing
a wide range of services to its clients in a manner which meets
their needs and is cost effective.
Areas of
specialization include labor, employment, government, elections,
campaign finance, ethics, open meeting, and constitutional law.
We are skilled in handling all aspects of litigation including
writs, appeals, trials, arbitrations, and civil service matters.
In addition, the firm advises public and non-profit agencies
on legislative and policy initiatives.
Continuing
the groundbreaking "affirmative litigation" model
pioneered by Louise Renne as San Francisco City Attorney, the
firm also represents and organizes public agencies and non-profit
organizations as plaintiffs in public interest and consumer
protection litigation.
Solving
Complex Problems
RSHS brings
a multi-disciplinary skill set to the table. The firm's attorneys
have a solid grasp of economics, municipal finance, public policy,
and the role of government and non-profits in providing essential
services. The RSHS approach combines that strategic experience
with the specialized skills of other professionals in related
fields, including, for example, compensation, benefits, finance,
and public relations.
Model
of Representation
The firm's
roots reach back to successful outside-the-box approaches applied
by Louise Renne and Jonathan Holtzman in the San Francisco City
Attorney's Office.
Widely credited
with creating a new model for the modern municipal law firm,
Louise Renne built a nationally recognized 200 lawyer public
law practice recognized for its high standard of excellence
in every area of government affairs from land use and public
safety to more cutting-edge fields such as telecommunications
and energy regulation.
She recast
the municipal attorney in a more activist role as legal problem
solver, inter-agency and community mediator, and neighborhood
services provider.
Among other
achievements, she won national recognition for San Francisco's
innovation in code enforcement, guided the city to the successful
termination of federal consent decrees integrating the police
and fire departments, and developed an unprecedented local government
plaintiffs practice.
It is this
model of innovation that serves as the standard for RSHS's work
on behalf of its clients.
The
Benefits of Experience
In the public
sector, legal proceedings may not always be the most practical
or efficient approach to problem solving. RSHS's value derives
in large part from its proven ability to communicate directly
and effectively with elected officials and high-level policy-makers.
Our attorneys grasp the political and policy contexts of problems,
and apply that knowledge to get results for clients.
Applying
Technological Innovation
RSHS doesn't
merely provide strategic advice, leaving interpretation and
implementation to others. Instead, our attorneys also take pride
in their ability to produce tangible results promptly and cost-effectively.
Applying its expertise in information technology, RSHS can produce,
often on the spot, a finished product that will help move a
client's project forward.
